Your Mat Is Calling!

Welcome back to your yoga practice! If you've been away for a while, it's completely normal to feel a bit rusty or unsure of where to begin. But don't let that discourage you - the beauty of yoga is that it's a practice that can be picked up again and again, no matter how much time has passed.

First and foremost, it's important to remember that yoga is a journey, not a destination. There's no need to compare your current self to the person you were when you last practiced, the people on instagram, or the cover of a magazine. Instead, approach your practice with curiosity and openness.

One great way to ease back into your practice is to start with a few simple stretches and breathing exercises. This will help you to reconnect with your body and start to build up your strength and flexibility again. The key is to just start and stop overthinking it. As you begin to feel more comfortable, you can start to add in more challenging poses and sequences.

It's also a good idea to set realistic goals for yourself and not fall into the all or nothing pit! For example, instead of trying to practice for an hour every day, start with just 10 minutes a day and gradually increase the time as you feel more comfortable. Remember, consistency is key, so it's better to practice for a shorter amount of time every day than to try to cram in a longer practice once a week and then turn on Netflix instead.

Another thing to keep in mind is that you don't need to practice alone. Finding a class or a teacher that you enjoy can be a great way to stay motivated and to learn new poses and sequences. If you're not able to attend in-person classes (like my beach classes, or online classes), there are plenty of online resources (like my YouTube channel, and our brand new app coming soon!), that can help you to get back into your practice.

Returning to your yoga practice after a break can be a bit daunting at first, but with a bit of patience and consistency, you'll be back in your groove in no time. Remember to approach your practice with openness and curiosity, keep it simple at first, set realistic goals for yourself, and don't hesitate to seek out the support from friends or your favorite teachers. Lean into your community! We are all here to support each other and grow stronger together!

See you on the mat soon!
